Dual Careers
If you are an entrepreneur, you can maintain a dual career as both a faculty member and an entrepreneur.
If you work as an entrepreneur in your spare time, this will not affect your position at USC.
You can also have a career as an entrepreneur while working as a faculty member at USC; however, some obstacles may need to be overcome before achieving success with either of these endeavours.
Faculty Mentoring
Faculty Mentoring is an online tool that allows faculty to ask questions and receive answers from their peers. It’s a community of USC faculty willing to support each other.
If you are interested in taking advantage of this service, please contact the Office of Human Resources at oir@usc.edu or (213) 740-4700 to request access to Faculty Mentoring and other benefits available through OIR!
Community Outreach
Community outreach is a great way to build a network of contacts and mentors. When you participate in community outreach, you can meet people who will help guide your career path. Community outreach is integral to building that network because it allows students to gain experience working with others outside their university environment.
The University Council generally meets once every two weeks during the academic year to advise the president on matters affecting university administration. It also serves as an advisory board to the provost concerning academic policy matters; makes recommendations regarding personnel issues; reviews proposals for capital projects, reviews budgets submitted by deans; considers requests from campus constituencies (i.e., students) for changes in existing regulations or procedures; advises on matters related to student life such as housing policies; conducts special studies when directed by either President Casteen or Provost Kornbluth; prepares reports summarizing findings from its deliberations which are distributed widely throughout campus so that all interested parties may have to access them easily.
Organizations for Faculty
- The USC Faculty Senate is the primary body representing faculty interests. It provides a forum for discussion and advice on matters of mutual concern, including curriculum development, teaching methods and facilities, research support, and faculty promotion and tenure policies.
