Founded as an educational institution for teachers and engineers by railroad tycoon William H. Rowland, who had previously established Santa Monica College to educate his employees’ children, USC’s original mission was to provide practical training for future leaders to serve their communities better. Today, it offers degrees across over 100 disciplines to over 48000 students while maintaining strong ties to the industry through continuing partnerships with companies such as Boeing Co., Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., Disney Animation Studios LLC and Electronic Arts Inc.
