Campus & Community

The University of Texas at Austin is a top-ranked public university with over 50,000 students and nearly 30,000 faculty and staff. UT’s main campus in central Austin has 300 buildings over 880 acres. The University offers over 100 undergraduate majors and programs and 150 graduate degrees through professional schools.

UT Austin Campus & Community

The University of Texas at Austin is a large university with many different departments and programs. It’s also home to over 400 student organisations, including the Texas Multicultural Music Society (TMS), which puts on concerts featuring musicians worldwide. The UT campus has its unique culture. However, there are plenty of opportunities to explore Austin’s vibrant downtown scene or enjoy some time outdoors in nearby parks and trails.

Arts & Culture

The University of Texas at Austin is home to a wide variety of arts and cultural events. Many live music venues on campus, including the LBJ Student Center Ballroom, host acts like The Flaming Lips and Joy Zipper. The Moody Theater is another popular concert venue for artists like Spoon, Edward Sharpe, and The Magnetic Zeroes. If you’re more into comedy than rock ‘n roll, check out the Vic Mathias Shout House or watch new movies in one of three theatres at the Harry Ransom Center Cinema (whether classics or modern releases).

The Blanton Museum of Art houses one of the best collections of modern art in Texas; it features works by Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollock, among many others. Visitors can view these pieces in their original context thanks to rotating exhibits that showcase different styles throughout history.

Campus Destinations

The University of Texas Tower, also known as the Main Building, is a landmark building on campus. It was constructed in 1937 and stands at 307 feet tall. The tower houses classrooms, offices and other facilities for students and faculty members; it also offers stunning views of Austin from its observation deck.

The Texas Union is an impressive building made up of three wings: South Wing (housing student organizations), North Wing (event space) and East Wing (food court). Another popular attraction is Located right next door: The Student Activity Center contains athletic facilities, including basketball courts and fields used mainly during football season!

Entrepreneurship & Innovation

Entrepreneurship is an integral part of the world and even more critical at UT Austin. The University offers students a variety of business courses and programs to help them develop their entrepreneurial spirit.

  • The Entrepreneurship & Innovation Program (EIP) offers classes focusing on building skills for successful startup companies. EIP also hosts events such as Startup Weekend, where students can meet like-minded individuals who want to create something new together!
  • The Center for New Ventures & Entrepreneurship provides resources for anyone looking to start a company or work with other entrepreneurs through networking events like Demo Day, where startups showcase their products/services.

Health & Well-being

UT offers a variety of health and wellness services, including:

  • The Student Health Center
  • Counseling and Mental Health Services (CMHS)
  • Student Emergency Medical Services (SEMS)

With this wealth of resources in place, UT strives to help students maintain their health on campus. To do so, UT provides various programs and services to support student well-being. These include:

  • The Active Living Center’s free fitness classes;
  • The Campus Recreation Center’s recreational facilities;
  • Austin Public Health’s free Zumba classes at Gregory Gym;
  • The Texas School for the Blind & Visually Impaired’s yoga program for visually impaired students, etc.

Housing & Dining

Housing & Dining

UT offers a variety of housing options for students, including first-year students. The University also allows all students to purchase a meal plan. There are several dining halls on campus where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the week.

Medical Center

The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, UT Medical Branch at Tyler and UT Southwestern Medical Center have strong ties to the University.

The UT School of Public Health is located on the main campus in Austin and at two other locations: San Antonio and Dallas-Fort Worth. It offers various undergraduate degrees and graduate programs for health professionals such as nurses, pharmacists and physician assistants.

Safety & Security

  • The UT Austin Police Department (UTPD) is the primary law enforcement agency on campus. They are responsible for enforcing laws, preventing crime and ensuring the campus community’s safety.
  • The UT Austin Campus Watch program provides an opportunity for students, faculty and staff members to become involved in helping prevent crime by reporting suspicious activity or persons to UTPD.
  • The Campus Emergency Alert System sends immediate notifications through text messages, e-mails and automated phone calls when there is an emergency on campus that requires close attention from all members of our community who have signed up for this notification system. Student Involvement

You can be involved in a variety of ways on campus. You can join a student organization, participate in student government or serve as an officer for your class. You can also create your own organization or join as an established group member.

If you’re interested in journalism, UT offers opportunities for students to work with The Daily Texan newspaper and KVRX radio station (102.1 FM). Suppose you want to get involved with the community off-campus. In that case, many organizations hold events throughout the year that connect people from different backgrounds through shared interests such as art or sports.

Student life provides opportunities for enjoyment beyond academics: Student activities include intramural sports leagues, dances, lectures by guest speakers, musical performances, and club meetings where students gather together around shared interests such as politics or science fiction books/movies/TV shows, cultural celebrations like Cinco de Mayo where people gather together over traditional Mexican foods such as tacos al pastor (pork tacos) while listening to mariachi music played live by local musicians.
