The University of Minnesota is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It’s the state’s largest university, with over 200 buildings on its main campus. The university was founded in 1851 as a private institution and became public in 1869 when it was renamed The University of Minnesota. Today, UMN is one of 31 member institutions that make up the Association of American Universities (AAU), whose mission is to promote academic research, scholarship and community service at top-ranked universities across America.
