UC Graduate Degrees & Programs
The University of Cincinnati, better known as UC, is a public research university founded in 1819. The school has five campuses and over 28,000 students in over 100 degree programs. UC allows students to choose from over 100 undergraduate majors and over 80 graduate programs.
Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS)
The Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS) is a one-year degree program designed to give students a deeper understanding of computer science theory, algorithms and programming languages. Students will learn how these concepts are applied in modern software development projects. The curriculum covers core areas such as data structures, algorithms and programming languages while allowing specialization within a discipline such as artificial intelligence or systems architecture & security.
Master of Science in Information Management and Systems (MSIMS)
The Master of Science in Information Management and Systems (MSIMS) degree is a 36-credit program that offers two tracks: Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Warehousing. Students with the BI channel select one area of concentration, while those with the DW track choose two. The degree requires courses in database systems, data mining, business intelligence systems, web analytics and mining big data.
Students can also choose from four areas of concentration:
- Business Analytics & Data Mining
- Enterprise Software Development
- Healthcare Informatics
- Information Security & Assurance
Master of Information Management (MIM)
The Master of Information Management (MIM) program is a one-year program for students with bachelor’s degrees in a field other than information management or technology. If you want to learn about the business and technology aspects of managing information, this program may be for you.
- Students who have earned their undergraduate degrees in areas such as accounting, economics, finance, marketing or business administration may find the MIM to be an excellent option because it allows them to gain knowledge about how different types of data are managed within organizations today–and how they can make decisions based on what they know about their own companies’ processes.

Master of Science in Health Informatics (MSHI)
The Master of Science in Health Informatics (MSHI) is a 36-credit program that allows students to pursue careers in health care and health information management. This one-year program is designed for individuals who have completed a bachelor’s degree but may also take it with a master’s or doctoral degree.
The curriculum includes courses on:
- Theoretical foundations of health informatics, including information systems theory and methodology; decision support systems; knowledge representation; business intelligence tools; databases; electronic patient records (EPRs); workflow management systems
- Applied research methods such as qualitative and quantitative studies, surveys/questionnaires/interviews
- Technology applications such as EHRs/EPRs applications programming interfaces (APIs), cloud computing
Graduate Certificate in Data Analytics (GCDAT)
The Graduate Certificate in Data Analytics (GCDAT) is a 12-credit graduate certificate program offered by the College of Business and Economics, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and Department of Computer Science. The program focuses on developing skills in data analytics that can be applied to many different business disciplines, such as marketing, finance and operations management.
Students who have earned an undergraduate degree from UC or another institution may apply directly to the GCDAT without being admitted into one of our MBA or MHA programs. Students with previous experience in analytics are encouraged to apply but are not required to have prior work experience explicitly related to data analytics; however, they must meet all admission requirements listed below before completing an application package, including official transcripts from all institutions attended along with two letters of recommendation from faculty members familiar with their academic performance during college coursework (no family members).
Master of Business Administration with a specialization in Business Analytics (MBA-A)
The UC MBA-A is a one-year program designed for working professionals who want to impact their organizations by using data analytics. It’s ideal for those with business experience, but it’s also suitable if you’re looking to make a career change into data science or analytics.
The curriculum covers technical and business aspects of applying statistical methods and modelling techniques in real-world situations. You’ll learn about essential topics such as:
- Data mining concepts
- Statistical modelling techniques (including linear regression and logistic regression)
- Machine learning algorithms (such as neural networks)
PhD in Information Management and Systems (PhD IM&S)
The PhD in IM&S is a research-based degree that takes four to five years to complete. Students must pass all exams, including the dissertation defence, before graduating.

The MIM program includes courses in business strategy; enterprise systems analysis; database design & development; computer networking fundamentals; web & mobile application development; among other related topics such as data mining & warehousing techniques used within these fields today.”
