Program in Teacher Preparation (PTAP)
The Program in Teacher Preparation (PTAP) is a two-year graduate program that prepares students to become teachers in New Jersey public schools. The curriculum focuses on developing the knowledge and skills necessary for teaching at all levels of education. Students develop an understanding of their strengths and weaknesses as well as those of their students; they learn how to create learning environments that support student success; they acquire strategies for assessing student performance; they become knowledgeable about issues related to diversity in schools; and they gain experience working with children from diverse backgrounds through field experiences.
In addition to acquiring coursework focused on these areas, PTAP students participate in internships during their first year, providing them with hands-on experience working with children with special needs or other academic challenges–or even just typical classroom settings! These internships allow you to get a feel for what it’s like being a teacher before graduating from Princeton University so you can decide whether this career path is right for you…Moreover, if so, will PTAP itself prepare you adequately enough?
