The University has over 30,000 students from all 50 states and 73 countries worldwide. Students can choose from more than 300 campus clubs and organisations ranging from Greek life to cultural societies to academic clubs focused on specific interests such as astronomy or poetry writing workshops.
Penn State University Health & Wellness is dedicated to providing the best medical care possible to patients in the region through quality medical professionals and state-of-the-art technology.
Penn State Health & Wellness offers various health services, including primary care, urgent care and speciality clinics; dental care (including orthodontics); optometry services; and a sleep centre.
The Penn State College of Medicine was established as a separate medical school on July 1, 2013, as part of its strategic growth plan. In 2017, it became part of Penn State University Park’s mission: “to educate physicians who will practice medicine with compassion, wisdom and skill while upholding the highest ethical standards.”
Penn State Health & Wellness encourages students of all ages to participate in their health actively. Work with your physician or provider to create a plan that meets your needs and goals.
We’re here for you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our physicians, nurses and staff work together as one team providing personalized care based on the needs of each patient they treat.
We offer several types of therapy through our Counseling Center and other offices on campus. Learn more about how we can help you find the right one.
- Mentoring: A mentor is a trained professional who helps students develop new skills, explore career options and set goals for their future.
- Peer support groups: These are small groups led by trained facilitators who provide mutual support to members in a safe environment where they can talk about their experiences as students at Penn State and in the community, gain insight into themselves, learn better coping skills when faced with stressors or challenges in life (and even get help resolving conflicts), build self-confidence and resilience–all while having fun!
- Individual therapy: This involves an hour-long session with an experienced therapist working collaboratively with you toward goals specific to your needs at this time (e.g., managing anxiety over exams). Depending on what issues need addressing most urgently at present–whether it’s depression related directly back to childhood trauma which caused feelings of worthlessness, etcetera–the focus may change over time, so please feel free to ask questions along those lines if necessary; however, note also that sometimes just getting out of bed each morning is difficult enough without worrying too much about what else might happen tomorrow night when trying hard just survive today.”
If you don’t feel comfortable reaching out directly to Penn State Health & Wellness Services or would prefer to talk with someone outside of the University setting first, there are other options:
- Talk with a friend or family member about what’s going on in your life; this can be especially helpful if they have been through similar situations.
- Consider seeking counselling at another local organization such as CAPS (Counseling and Psychological Services) at Kutztown University or other community mental health agencies available through the Lehigh Valley Health Network website:Â www.lvhnpa.org/.
