It was founded in 1870 as a land-grant institution and is the third-largest university in the United States by enrollment. The main campus is home to 18 colleges and a graduate school with 53 departments across many fields of study.<\/p><p>OSU was established as an agricultural college under the Morrill Land-Grant Act of 1862 and opened its doors to students on February 8th, 1870, with three buildings: Old Main (now called Morrill Hall), North Hall (now Vehr House), and South Hall (replaced by King Library).
