About

Moritz College of Law is located on the main campus of Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The law school building was built in 2000, and it houses classrooms, faculty offices, and a large courtroom where students can practice their oral arguments.

The history of Moritz College of Law dates back to 1890, when it was founded as one of the earliest professional schools at OSU (then known as Ohio State University). In addition to its traditional J.D. program, Moritz offers five joint degrees that allow students to earn their degree from another college or school within OSU while also earning their law degree: JD/MBA; JD/MPA; JD/MPH; JD/MSLIS; and J.D./PhD in Criminology & Criminal Justice Studies.

The student body includes approximately 700 undergraduates and 200 graduates who come from all 50 states plus Puerto Rico and Guam with diverse racial backgrounds reflecting our nation’s rich racial heritage, including African American (14%), Asian American(7%), Hispanic American(5%).

Admissions

The admissions process at Moritz College of Law is highly competitive. The school receives over 5,000 applications annually and admits less than 20%. To be eligible for admission, applicants must submit the following:

  • A completed application form (available online)
  • Official transcripts from all colleges or universities previously attended
  • LSAT scores sent directly from the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC)

  • Ohio State University Moritz College of Law is a private, non-profit school founded in 1892. The law school has a total enrollment of 1,200 students, including both full-time and part-time students. The average class size at Ohio State is approximately 150 students per class.

    The admissions process at Ohio State is highly competitive, with an acceptance rate of 26%. Applicants must submit their applications through LSAC (Law School Admissions Council), which charges a $50 application fee for each school you apply to and an additional fee if you would like them to send your statement or letters of recommendation to multiple schools simultaneously. In addition to submitting your LSAT score(s) and undergraduate GPA along with several other documents such as official transcripts from all colleges attended and recommendations from professors/ employers/ community leaders who know you well enough to write about what kind of person they believe would thrive in law school; applicants must also complete three essays totalling no more than 6500 words on topics explicitly related toward why applicants want to go into law school now rather than later (or never).
