Ohio State University Additional Requirements to Apply for International Study

Admissions

Applications to the Columbus campus must be submitted through the Office of Admissions. If you want to study on both campuses, apply to one location first.

If you are applying for admission as an international student, please submit all required documents by February 1 of each year. The deadline for the fall term is December 15.

All applicants must contact our office directly before registering with any third-party agencies that offer services related to international student recruitment or admissions, such as those listed below

Application Fee

The application fee is $50, and it is non-refundable. You can pay the payment by credit card or check; however, if you choose to pay with a check, it must be received by OSU before your application will be submitted

Official Transcripts

You must submit official transcripts from all institutions you have attended. Transcripts must be sent directly from your institution to Ohio State. Do not send unofficial copies or scanned documents.

Test Scores

The TOEFL or IELTS is required for applicants enrolled in an on-campus English language program at Ohio State.

  • Minimum scores

The minimum TOEFL score is 80 for the paper-based test, 100 for the internet-based test and 7.0 for the IBT (internet-based). The minimum IELTS score is 6.5 overall band, with no band less than 6.0.

Application Deadlines

  • The application deadline is November 1. As an international student, you must submit all documents by December 1.
  • Proof of English proficiency (if required) must be submitted by April 1.

  • Admission requirements: Applicants must have an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institution and have earned at least a 2.5 GPA on a 4-point scale in their last 60 semester hours of coursework (or equivalent) with no more than two grades below C in any one semester/quarter period. Students may also be required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

  • Transcripts: If applicable, two official copies of transcripts from each college or university attended are required, including those treated while studying abroad within the last five years. Suppose you completed more than one year at another institution before enrolling at Ohio State University. In that case, all transcripts must be submitted regardless of whether they were taken through distance education courses or other means, such as dual enrolment programs with high schools outside your home state’s borders during this period–including summer sessions if applicable!
