  • Undergraduate students work with faculty on their undergraduate research projects (URPs). These URP experiences can be part of your major/minor requirements and may be used toward your graduation requirements.
  • Graduate students conduct graduate research or thesis projects under the supervision of a professor who guides them through the process of completing an original scientific inquiry or creative activity resulting in an original piece of knowledge or artwork — including scholarly publications and creative works such as plays or novels — that advances their field(s) of study.
  • Master’s degree candidates are required to complete at least one semester-long course designated as “research” during each academic year they are enrolled full-time at Ohio State University; these courses provide intensive training in methods appropriate for an advanced investigation into complex issues requiring specialized knowledge from multiple disciplines being studied simultaneously by collaborating teams led by faculty mentors who serve as advisors throughout each student’s education career trajectory at OSU (including doctoral studies).
