Application Process and Deadlines
If you are applying for admission to one of our graduate programs (which is different from applying for admission as a student at Ohio State), please refer to the program’s website for specific deadlines and requirements. Some programs have earlier deadlines than others. The deadline for all three applications–university, school and department–is December 1st; however, some departments may have earlier deadlines than this date, so be sure to check with them before submitting your application if possible!
Admission Requirements
The graduate school application process differs from what you may be used to.
The deadline for the following fall semester is June 1st, and December 1st for spring admission. The application fee is $55 for domestic students, which can be paid online when submitting your application or mailed directly to Ohio State’s Graduate Admissions Office in Columbus, OH 43210-1274 USA (make checks payable to “Ohio State University”). You’ll need to complete a Graduate School Application Form and submit it with transcripts from all colleges/universities attended and any other required materials such as recommendations or test scores.
You must also have an official copy of your GMAT score sent directly from GMAC (the testing agency) or take an approved qualifying exam at one of our campuses before applying; see below for details on where these exams are offered locally.
Test Scores and Other Requirements
- GRE or GMAT: Graduate programs in Ohio State’s College of Engineering require the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), while most other graduate programs accept either the GRE or the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT).
- TOEFL or IELTS scores: The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is required for international students not yet educated in an English-speaking country. The minimum score for admission to OSU’s graduate programs is 100 on the internet-based test, with at least 20 on each section and 5 in writing. The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is also accepted by most departments at OSU, with a minimum score of 7 overall and 6 in each section.
- GRE Subject Test: Some departments require this exam if you apply for their program but need more undergraduate coursework in your intended study area. Other Requirements: Students must meet any specific requirements set forth by their intended department; these may include additional transcripts or letters of recommendation from individuals who know your work well enough to comment on it intelligently.
How to Apply Online?
- You can apply online by going to the Ohio State Graduate Admissions website.
- The application fee is $50; you can pay it using a credit card or e-check. If you are applying for financial aid, the university will waive your application fee. However, suppose you are not eligible for financial assistance and still want to use it as an out-of-state student. In that case, you must pay this amount before submitting your application form online at osugradapps.osu.edu/apply_online/
- Payment methods available: Debit Card (Mastercard & Visa), Credit Card (Mastercard & Visa), E-Check
Common Application
The Common Application is a standardized online application used by most U.S. colleges and universities. It’s used by over 600 colleges and universities in the United States, including Ohio State University and many international schools. The Common App was founded in 1975 and has since become one of North America’s most widely used college admission applications.
