It has a full-time enrollment of around 50,000 students, and more than 200,000 people attend classes each year. This makes it one of the largest universities in the United States and the highest-ranked public school in New York City. The school was founded in 1831 by Albert Gallatin and real estate developer Ezra Cornell as a co-educational school that would teach religious and secular topics equally; however, after only two years on campus, it was forced to close down due to financial difficulties. It was founded in 2012 by NYU, Columbia University and the University of Toronto. CUSP runs programs focused on robotics, sustainability and transportation. It focuses on obesity, diabetes, and other chronic diseases that can be prevented or controlled through lifestyle changes. The Institute was established with a generous gift from the Max C. Fleischmann Foundation in 2009, and it is named after its founder, Max Fleischmann.<\/p><p>The Institute serves as an academic home for historians who study science and technology in their cultural contexts, including medicine; engineering; ecology; climate change; nutrition; food safety; energy production, transmission and storage systems; information processing technologies such as computers or telecommunications networks; nanotechnology, etc.<\/p><p>The Dibner Institute offers two PhD programs: History &amp; Philosophy of Science (HPS)and History &amp; Social Studies With a Computer Science Concentration (HSWCS). The department\u2019s mission is to prepare individuals for environmental research, teaching and advocacy careers.<\/p><p>The undergraduate major in environmental studies provides students with a foundation in science, policy, law and ethics as they relate to human dependence on natural systems. Graduates will be prepared for employment or advanced study at top universities or professional schools such as medicine or law school; they may also pursue careers related directly to environmental
