Financial aid can be in the form of scholarships, grants or loans.\n\nSuppose you are applying for financial aid from NYU. In that case, you must know how much money your family will be able to contribute towards your education so that we can determine how much need-based funding you may qualify for through our office. You should also know if outside scholarships or grants are available to help reduce the debt incurred during college (such as those awarded through state agencies). Federal work-study awards are based on the student\u2019s demonstrated financial need. It is not a loan, grant or scholarship but an employment opportunity. Work-study pays for itself by allowing you to make money through employment at NYU instead of borrowing from the federal government or private lenders such as banks and credit card companies. They have different eligibility requirements and interest rates than TAP.
