If you’re a high school student, NYU has five different types of applications you can submit to NYU. If you’re an adult learner or transfer student, there are two additional options for applying.

NYU is one of the country’s most diverse colleges and universities–we encourage all qualified students from all backgrounds to apply!

Freshman

If you are a freshman, congratulations! You’re about to embark on an exciting new chapter in your life. As a first-year student at NYU, you’ll have the opportunity to make friends worldwide and explore your passions through classes that challenge and inspire you.

At NYU’s Washington Square campus in New York City or our satellite campuses around the world–including Abu Dhabi; Shanghai; Amman, Jordan; Buenos Aires; London; Madrid; Paris; Tel Aviv–you’ll be surrounded by some of the brightest minds in academia as well as countless opportunities for growth and personal development.

Transfer

You can transfer to NYU from a community college or another four-year institution. There are two ways to share with course credits (the most common) or without course credits. Suppose you still need to complete college courses. In that case, you must start as a first-year student and complete your first year at NYU before applying for admission as a transfer student. Regardless of how long it takes for your application process, once admitted as an undergraduate student at NYU–and once all required documents are submitted–you will be eligible for the same tuition rate as first-year students!

Graduate Studies

If you’re looking to get your graduate degree at NYU, here are some of the programs that might interest you:

  • The School of Medicine offers MD and PhD degrees in biomedical sciences.
  • The College of Dentistry provides a Doctorate in Oral Biology and Pathology (DOBP).
  • The Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development offers Master’s degrees in teaching with an emphasis on early childhood education or special education services for children with disabilities; education policy studies; human development & psychology; multicultural leadership studies; urban education policy analysis & reform; social justice & civil rights advocacy for youth without access to quality schools.

Dual Degree

Dual Degree students must apply to both schools separately. Dual Degree students are not eligible for financial aid from either school. However, they may be able to take advantage of scholarships and grants offered by the university they’re attending. The NYU undergraduate scholarship is only available to NYU undergraduates, so if you plan on pursuing a Dual Degree program at another institution, it’s best to look into funding opportunities there instead!

Special Admission Program

The Special Admission Program is for students who are usually not eligible for admission to NYU. It’s designed to provide an opportunity for students with disabilities or illnesses and international students who don’t meet the regular requirements of our application but could still be successful at NYU Stern.

Suppose you have a disability or illness that impacts your ability to succeed in school and life. In that case, we encourage those applicants with disabilities or diseases (including physical challenges) to apply through this program. Please note that only those applicants whose conditions require accommodations will be given priority status when considering their applications; all other applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis according to their academic profile and performance on standardized tests such as the GREs/GMATs/LSATs

You can apply to NYU in many ways; it depends on what you want to study and where you want to live
