Information for new Undergraduates
You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for financial aid. This can be done online at fafsa.ed.gov. The deadline is June 30th of each year, but we recommend filing as early as possible to get your funds in time for classes and summer housing deposits.
You will receive an award letter from NYU’s Office of Financial Aid that details how much aid you have been awarded and whether it includes any loans or work-study employment opportunities.
FAFSA verification
FAFSA verification is required for all first-year and transfer students who have applied for federal student aid. If you are a freshman or transfer student, please follow these steps:
- Log into NYU’s NetID portal at portal.nyu.edu .
- Select the “Finances” tab from the left-hand menu.
- Click on “FAFSA Verification” under ‘Financial Aid’.
You will be redirected to a page where you can verify your FAFSA information by entering your name, date of birth and Social Security number (SSN). You must also review all fields before submitting them as correct; if any information has changed since submitting your FAFSA form earlier this year, please update it now by clicking “Update Data.” Once complete, click “Submit” at the bottom right corner of the screen; this will take you back to NYU’s NetID portal, where another box will appear confirming submission was successful!

CSS profile verification
You must verify your CSS profile if you plan to apply for financial aid. This can be done by logging into the NYU Admissions Portal and clicking “Financial Aid.”
For more information on how to verify your CSS Profile and what happens if it needs to be verified by the deadline, visit [this page](https://www1.nyu.edu/admissions/financial-aid/css_profile_verification)

- You were enrolled in the previous academic year (fall/spring semesters) and have not dropped any courses.
- You meet all other eligibility requirements for your level of study (fees, time limits).
If you are eligible for summer term financial aid, it will be disbursed in two instalments: one-half of the award amount at the beginning of May and another half by June 30th.

NYU has financial aid, and getting it in on time is essential
You can get financial aid at NYU. The university has a need-based, merit-based and self-help aid program. If you think you might be eligible for assistance, submit your FAFSA as soon as possible so that NYU can evaluate your financial situation.
Suppose you’re an undergraduate student and must complete your first year at NYU. In that case, the deadline to apply for undergraduate financial aid is March 1st of your current academic year.
