- International Applicants
The NYU School of Professional Studies welcomes applicants from all over the world. The application process is comprehensive, but we’ve broken it down into steps to make it easier to understand:
How to apply
- The application is available online. You can apply to multiple programs and campuses simultaneously, but you must pay the application fee for each program.
- You may apply to more than one program at a time. However, we recommend only using one if you are interested in several different areas of study or career paths (e.g., both English Literature and Comparative Literature). If this is not the case, we strongly suggest focusing on completing one application as thoroughly as possible before moving on to another one–this will ensure that our deadlines submit all materials!
Application requirements
To apply to NYU, you must complete the following steps:
- Complete the online application (you can begin this process as soon as you decide to use it)
- Submit your official test scores from one of the following exams: TOEFL or IELTS (International English Language Testing System). The minimum required score for either exam is 80; however, we recommend that applicants have a minimum score of 100 on each section of the TOEFL exam or 7.0 for Reading and writing and 6.5 for Listening and speaking on their IELTS exam
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply as an international applicant, you must:
- Be a high school graduate or have an equivalent degree (such as a GED)
- Be at least 18 years old by the time you start studying at NYU
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident with proof of your status in your country of residence
- Have demonstrated strong academic performance throughout high school, including taking challenging courses and earning good grades on standardized tests such as the ACT or SAT; see our test requirements below for more information on these tests
Dates & Deadlines
- International applicants have a different admissions process than domestic applicants. International applicants must submit their application and all required documentation by December 15, to be considered for admission. All other deadlines are the same as domestic students’ deadlines.
- Transfer students must apply by February 1; however, it is recommended that you use it as early as possible (by November 1) to ensure that we receive your application materials on time.
Application Fee
The application fee is $80, and it’s non-refundable. This means that you must apply to NYU and get in to get your money back. The application fee is required for all applicants who submit an online or paper application.
Documents needed
- Transcripts: You must submit transcripts from all colleges and universities you’ve attended, including those you took courses as a non-degree-seeking student. If you have questions about what we can accept, please get in touch with us at [email protected] or 212.998.2222
- Test scores: We require official scores from the following exams: SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) or ACT (American College Testing), TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), and IELTS (International English Language Testing System). For more information on how to send your scores, visit our website at www.nyuadmissionstestingcenter.com/how-to-send-your-scores/.
- Application fee: $80 for domestic students; $105 for international students who live outside North America; $125 for international students who live in North America but not New York state; $200 if applying via early decision or early action programs
- Recommendation letters: Two letters of recommendation are required when applying to NYU’s undergraduate program

- Documents may be sent by mail, fax or email (in a sealed envelope).
