How to Apply
There are several ways to apply to NYU. The first step is to fill out an online application, which you can do here. Once you’ve completed the form and paid your $80 non-refundable fee, you can view transcripts from your previous schools and colleges and any SAT or ACT scores sent to us.
You’ll also need to submit financial aid information at this stage; we encourage applicants who plan on applying for financial aid (and most do!) not only because it helps us understand how much money they might need but also because having their forms submitted before March 1 gives them a better chance at receiving funding!
After submitting all required documents and paying any necessary fees, applicants will receive confirmation emails telling them where they stand about each admission component: whether they’ve been accepted or waitlisted if there are any questions about their application materials, etcetera.

Eligibility
- Be a high school graduate or have completed a general education development (GED) test. (International applicants must meet additional requirements and submit materials for evaluation by the Office of Global Services.)
- Be at least 16 by your first day of classes at NYU. If you are under 18 years old, please see our policies on “minors.”
- Have been in good academic standing at your last school (with an overall GPA above 2.0).
Application Requirements
Documents Needed
The first step in applying for undergraduate admission is to submit an online application. Along with your application, you must also offer the following:
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended (official electronic transcripts are acceptable). Transcripts must be sent directly from the institution(s) to NYU’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions by mail or courier service (i.e., FedEx). All international students must submit official academic records translated into English and verified by World Education Services (WES), the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), or the International Education Research Foundation International Evaluation Service (IERF)

Application fee
The application fee is $80, which can be waived for students eligible for financial aid. This includes all NYU undergraduates who apply through the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

Test Scores
We will consider your highest composite score across all sections of the exam (Critical Reading + Math) your “test score.” We do not require you to submit additional scores unless they are higher than those offered with your initial application or if you are applying as an Early Decision candidate who plans on attending NYU after graduating high school this spring.
In addition to sending us your test scores directly from ETS/ Collegeboard or ACT Inc., please include an official copy of both sides’ photo identification with every submission!
Deadlines & Decisions
Application deadlines: April 1
Decision notification dates: May 1
Decision notification time:
- Early-decision applicants will be notified of their admissions decisions in mid-December. If you apply early decision, your admission is binding, and you are required to withdraw all other applications and commit yourself to attend New York University if admitted.
- Regular decision applicants will be notified of their admissions decisions at the end of March or early April for fall semester entry, January for spring semester entry, or May for summer session entry.

It would help if you started the application process as soon as possible. The earlier you apply, the more time you’ll have to complete all your requirements by the deadline and ensure that your application is ready to go when it’s time for NYU to review it.
- Apply early: The earlier in the year you apply, the better chance you’ll have at being admitted!
- Apply now rather than later: It’s never too early or late to start thinking about college admissions and what kind of future school might be right for you. Suppose there’s one thing we’ve learned from our years of experience helping students find their perfect fit. In that case, applying sooner rather than later almost always results in better academic and financial outcomes (since most schools charge an application fee).
- Be sure everything is complete before submitting: Make sure all required documents are uploaded along with any supplemental materials, such as letters of recommendation and test scores, so that there are no delays once NYU receives them.
