How to apply

The NYU application process is a unique and exciting opportunity to join one of the country’s most diverse and talented student bodies. Whether you are applying as an undergraduate, graduate student, or professional degree-seeking candidate, there are many steps to take before submitting your online application. Read on for tips on preparing your application materials and visiting our campus.

The Application Process

The application process can be daunting, but it’s important to remember that NYU is here to help you. Don’t hesitate to ask any questions about the application process or what happens next!

How do I apply?

You can apply online through the Common Application at http://apply.nyu.edu/apply/. The deadline for Fall admission is January 2 at midnight EST; however, we recommend submitting by November 1 to ensure the timely processing of your application material and receive additional feedback from our office before making an enrollment decision (see below). You must submit all required documents within one month from the submission date or risk having your file closed due date extended until our office receives all materials.

When should I apply?

We encourage applicants who are ready for college-level work and want their first semester of college experience next year to apply by December 1.

You can still apply after this date but will need additional guidance from us as well as potentially longer wait times between steps in our process.

This may impact decisions about whether or not we can admit you into our program(s), so please consider this before applying beyond December 1.

Things to Know Before Applying

You must be a high school student.
You must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
You must be in good academic standing and meet the minimum GPA requirement for each program you’re applying to (see below). If your school uses weighted grades, your GPA should reflect that when calculating your unweighted cumulative grade point average (GPA).
You can apply to one or more programs at NYU, but we recommend using them only when you are sure it’s the right fit for you! We also encourage students admitted into multiple programs at NYU to consider which suits their interests and career goals before deciding which college/program they will attend as undergraduate students here on campus.”

Submitting Your Application

To submit your application online, log in to the Common Application website and select “Apply Now.”
If you are applying for financial aid, please note that all required documents must be submitted by the deadline. You can find more information about financial assistance at nyu.edu/admissions/financial-aid/.
Ensure you have a valid email address and credit card before submitting your application.

How to Review Your Application Status

If you’re an applicant who has yet to hear back from NYU, use the status checker on the NYU website. This tool allows applicants to enter their name and date of birth, generating an automated response with their application status.

NYU Application Fee Waiver Policies and Requirements

NYU does not charge a fee for applying to the university. However, you may be required to pay a separate application fee if you apply to an undergraduate program at another college or university. The deadline for submitting your NYU application is January 15; however, we recommend submitting it as soon as possible so that we can process your information before the deadline.
