Housing for grad students
If you’re a grad student at NYU, many housing options are available. The university offers dorms, apartments, and co-ops (the latter two of which can include single rooms or shared accommodations). You can also search for off-campus housing in the surrounding areas of New York City.
If you have a family and need more space than a traditional dorm room or apartment would provide–and don’t mind paying more–NYU has several family housing options available on campus and nearby. These include townhouses with full kitchens, laundry facilities, and apartments with private bedrooms but shared bathrooms throughout each floor in an older building near Washington Square Park.

NYU student ID card
You will need a student ID card to enter the library and other campus facilities. You can also use it to pay for meals at the dining hall and access the gym and dormitories. Your NYU student ID is also required when using computers in the computer lab located on campus.
If you have not received your NYU student ID by the time classes start, please contact us immediately so we can assist you with this process!
Health insurance and Health care
Health insurance is necessary for all students not covered by an employer-sponsored plan. You can learn more about the types of coverage available at NYU, including how to apply for and enrol in a student health plan, on our website.
If your family has a private health insurance plan, let us know so we can help you navigate any challenges when taking advantage of this benefit while studying abroad.

Registering for classes
To register for classes, visit the NYU Registrar’s website.
On your school’s site’s main page, click “Register.” This will take you to a page with instructions on registering for classes.
After reading through these instructions, click “Register Now” at the bottom of your screen (or follow my directions below).
You’ll be asked to log in using your NYU credentials and select which semester you want to register for–fall or spring. If this is your first time writing online as an undergraduate student at NYU, please choose “New Student Application.” Once selected, click “Continue” next to where it says, “This is an undergraduate student?”
Graduate & professional student orientation
What is the orientation?
Orientation is a required part of your NYU experience. It’s held in the summer and fall, and you must attend all sessions to register for classes. The first session lasts about two hours, with additional sessions available on subsequent days if you need them. Each session includes an overview of academic policies, financial aid information, and academic integrity standards.
