NYU has a vast history that continues to make headlines in higher education. The school has been around since 1831, and it’s easy to see why it has achieved such success over its long existence. NYU’s founding class consisted of just nine students. However, that number has grown into an institution with over 50,000 students across its global campuses today. In addition to being ranked as the top public University in New York State by U.S. News & World Report for 20 consecutive years (including this year), NYU has received numerous accolades from organisations like Forbes and Washington Monthly. Let’s take a look at some of these.

Faculty awards
- Distinguished Professor Award: This award is given to faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarship and service.
- Faculty Excellence Award: The NYU School of Medicine’s highest honour for teaching excellence is bestowed upon an individual who has demonstrated sustained superior performance over an extended period.
- Teaching Excellence Award: An annual award recognizing outstanding teaching at the University. It is given by the Provost’s Office and administered by the Center for Academic Enrichment (CAE).
- Research Excellence Award: In recognition of your remarkable record as a scholar-teacher at NYU Langone Health/NYU School of Medicine. This prestigious award honours your commitment to improving health care through research that advances knowledge about human diseases, enhances patient care practices, or both–and reflects the value placed on this pursuit by your peers within academia and those outside its walls.

- Student Awards: Students are nominated by their peers and chosen by a committee of faculty members. The awards include $1,000 to the student winner and a certificate of distinction for each runner-up.
Global Student Awards
Global Student Awards are given to students from all over the world. These awards are open to undergraduate and graduate students with outstanding academic records and show potential for research, teaching or leadership in their chosen fields.
The Global Student Awards committee is looking for applicants who desire to learn about other cultures, whether through travel, language study or research. Students must be enrolled full-time at NYU (or another university) with at least one semester remaining before the graduation date when applying for this award; however, if you’re using it as part of your first year of study at NYU, then you can apply during any semester throughout your four years here!

University Teaching Awards
The University has a long tradition of honouring excellence in teaching. The annual awardees are selected by their peers, who have been recognized as outstanding teachers.
Faculty Awards: These awards recognize faculty members whose teaching activities have significantly impacted their students and the community at large. Nominees must demonstrate excellence in one or more areas: curriculum development; educational technology initiatives; innovative approaches to student learning; service to the community through professional development activities related to their discipline(s) or interdisciplinary studies; mentoring students outside of class time (e.g., advising clubs); developing new courses or revising existing ones based on emerging trends in scholarship within their disciplines/interdisciplinary fields of study (e.g., “hot topics” courses). Faculty members may also be nominated for this category if they were recently hired but already show evidence that they will make an immediate contribution toward improving NYU’s undergraduate experience by enhancing its quality through innovative teaching methods while maintaining high standards for academic achievement among undergraduates.”
