Forms of aid

NYU has one of the most generous financial aid programs in the country. We offer need-based grants, work-study, scholarships, loans, and other aid to help students cover their education costs. Financial aid awards are determined by a combination of factors, including the cost of attendance and your family’s ability to pay.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is money that you don’t have to pay back. It can come in the form of grants, scholarships and loans. There are many types of financial aid, and you can apply through NYU’s Office of Financial Aid (OFA).

Scholarship

Scholarships are awards for academic merit. They’re typically awarded by the school, the government or a private organization, and the money you receive depends on your academic performance.

Scholarships are not loans; they do not need to be repaid. However, if you have any questions about whether or not you can accept a scholarship based on your financial aid package, please get in touch with us at [email protected]

Loan Programs

Loans are a great way to pay for school. They allow you to go to the college of your choice and get a degree without worrying about paying it back immediately. Loan programs are great, but not all loans are created equal! Some offer better interest rates than others or have more flexible repayment options. You should choose a loan program that fits your needs best to maximize its benefits and minimize any negative consequences if something goes wrong with your finances later on in life.

Other Aid (Health, Dependent Care)

  • Health Care

NYU offers a health care plan to help pay for medical expenses. You must be enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) to be eligible. If you have dependents, they must also be enrolled in SHIP. The amount of aid available varies depending on your family size and income level. The deadline to apply is April 15th each year; however, if you miss this deadline, NYU will only accept applications once all funds are exhausted or June 30th, whichever comes first.*

  • Dependent Care

NYU offers a dependent care plan that provides up to $3,000 per academic year for eligible students who have children under age 13 and disabled dependents who live with them full-time while attending school at least half-time.* This benefit can only be used for qualified childcare expenses incurred while attending classes at NYU or another institution authorized by federal law
