IUPUI is a diverse campus, with more than 60 per cent of our students identifying as people of colour. This diversity also extends to our faculty and staff, who come from all over the world to work here.

Our students also have many opportunities to learn about other cultures through their classes or by joining student organizations focusing on specific topics such as race relations or gender equality issues. Students can participate in events like IUPUI’s Black History Month celebration each February or the annual Diversity Week held every spring semester, which highlights various aspects of campus life related to diversity issues through lectures and workshops designed specifically for this purpose.

RESEARCH

IUPUI’s School of Science offers students a wide range of opportunities to get involved in research. You can work with faculty on their projects or pursue independent study depending on your interests and background. The following programs are available:

  • Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) – Students interested in pursuing a separate project with a faculty member may apply for this program. Each student will be paired with a professor who has agreed to supervise them throughout their research project, which must be completed within one year from its start date. There is no cost for participating in UROP; however, each student must provide their funding unless otherwise specified by their supervisor.
  • Summer Research Internships – These internships are designed specifically for undergraduate students who have completed at least two years at IUPUI but have yet to graduate from college (or high school). They allow participants to gain valuable hands-on experience working alongside scientists and expose them to what it would be like working as part of a professional scientific community after graduation!
