How to Apply

The application process for the School of Liberal Arts is a straightforward one. There are several steps that you’ll need to complete before you can be considered for admission to IUPUI, including:

  • Paying an application fee. This fee ranges from $30-$65 depending on your state of residence and whether or not you’re applying through Early Decision or Regular Decision. You can pay this fee by credit card, check or money order at any time during the application process .
  • Submitting all required documents and transcripts by the appropriate deadlines listed below:
  • Early Decision applicants must submit all the necessary documents by November 1st; Regular Decision applicants must submit their materials after January 15th but no later than April 15th

Freshman applicants

Before you can be considered for admission, you need to take the first step of completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The IUPUI School of Liberal Arts will verify your financial status and eligibility for grants or other financial aid.

To apply for admission to IUPUI’s School of Liberal Arts, you must submit:

  • A completed application form and a $50 application fee ($60 if you apply after June 1st) by our deadline date.
  • Official transcripts from each college attended showing completion of at least 12 semester hours with an overall GPA (grade point average) of 2.5 or higher on a 4-point scale for students entering directly from high school; 3.0 or higher for transfer students who have earned fewer than 24 transferable college credits at another institution(s). If you took classes at more than one college during the same semester(s), please submit transcripts from all institutions where coursework was taken.

Graduate applicants

To apply to the IUPUI School of Liberal Arts as a graduate student, you must:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4-point scale).
  • Have completed at least 12 credit hours of coursework in the field of study.

Other types of applicants

Applicants who have earned a bachelor’s degree. If you’ve already completed your undergraduate degree at another institution, the Graduate School will accept up to 30 credit hours of transfer credit from that institution toward your IUPUI graduate program. The remaining hours would be taken in courses offered by IUPUI, with at most 12 credits being transferred from any department or program.

    • Non-degree seeking applicants (those not seeking an official degree). Suppose you are interested in taking classes for personal enrichment but wish to pursue something other than a formal graduate degree. In that case, this option may be available for selected programs, such as those in education and business administration, with limited enrollment numbers during specific semesters.
    • Returning after an absence of more than one year: If it has been longer than one year since your last coursework at IUPUI or another accredited college/university, then please get in touch with us directly so we can determine if special admission requirements apply before applying through our online portal called “OneStop Student Services.”

Dates and deadlines

  • The IUPUI School of Liberal Arts has a rolling admissions process. This means that you can apply anytime during the year. However, you will receive a decision before the next application cycle if you submit your application on or before October 15 for Early Decision (ED) or November 1 for Regular Decision (RD).

    If you are an international applicant, please note that all visa requests must be submitted by January 1.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available to students who need it. To apply, fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at [www.fafsa.gov]. 

Financial aid may be in the form of grants, scholarships, or loans, which do not have to be repaid if you meet certain conditions set by the federal government, such as maintaining a minimum GPA and remaining enrolled full-time throughout your college career.* If you are eligible for federal student loans, then IUPUI will offer you one or more options based on our evaluation of your FAFSA data.*

Federal Pell Grants are awarded based on financial need as determined by completing the annual FAFSA form.* These grants do not have to be repaid by recipients who remain eligible after graduation by meeting specific requirements set forth by law (e.g.,g.: working towards an advanced degree).

Applying to IUPUI is easy, and you can apply online.

IUPUI offers many ways to apply:

  • Online. You can apply online using the Common Application and pay with a credit card. The application is free, and you will receive an instant decision once it’s been processed by the IUPUI admissions staff.
  • By mail or fax (if you’re sending your transcripts). Download the PDF version of our application form here, then print out all parts of the state and send them together with copies of official transcripts (you can also include letters of recommendation), test scores, recommendations, personal statement(s) as well as other supporting documents if applicable (such as work experience). While we accept challenging copy applications, they generally take longer than online submissions; therefore, we strongly recommend submitting them electronically!
